As the peak Australian body for Spiritual Care, Spiritual Care Australia (SCA) recognises the importance of having professional, skilled, and experienced practitioners whose capabilities and competence are assessed and credentialed according to a capabilities framework.

Members of Spiritual Care Australia come from a wide variety of beliefs and cultural backgrounds. They work in hospitals, aged care, the emergency services, the defence forces, prisons, schools, universities, workplaces and in the community. Common roles include Spiritual Care, Pastoral Care & Chaplaincy.

Senior Spiritual Care Practitioner

Fundamental to the pastoral care services and partnering with our incredible team to promote and support the integral importance of spirituality to a person’s wellbeing, this vital position focuses on coordinating spiritual care services to meet the spiritual, religious and emotional needs of residents, families and staff within our Wembley Campus and Residential Aged Care (RAC) homes. With deep respect and authentic curiosity embracing spiritual, cultural and religious diversity this role models Mercy Care’s Mission Ethos, Values and Ethics. About you You’ll have a vibrant and active spirituality to both ground you and drive your engagement and support of others. You’ll have a strong understanding and commitment to the spiritual care needs of the elderly, their friends and families, along with experience with the life processes of grief, dying and death including Catholic practice and tradition. You’ll be looking to join a caring, diverse and passionate team and your key experience will include: The ability to create and lead spiritual reflection, embrace diversity and work across religious and spiritual traditions A strong understanding of Catholic sacramental practice Assessment and care planning including the use of online care management systems The ability to coordinate a diverse team with great relationship building, interpersonal skills and emotional maturity Foundational counselling and group work skills with excellent communication skills across verbal, written and digital mediums Excellent administrative, computer, planning and organisational skills National Police Clearance (obtained within the last six months)
