As the peak Australian body for Spiritual Care, Spiritual Care Australia (SCA) recognises the importance of having professional, skilled, and experienced practitioners whose capabilities and competence can be assessed and credentialed according to a capabilities framework.

Our Association is committed to ensuring excellence in the practice of spiritual care in all industries and sectors around our country. Members of Spiritual Care Australia come from a wide variety of beliefs and cultural backgrounds. They work in hospitals, aged care, the emergency services, the defence forces, prisons, schools, universities, workplaces and in the community. Our membership is made up of full-time and part-time spiritual carers, some in paid positions and some in voluntary capacities. Common roles include Spiritual Care, Pastoral Care & Chaplaincy.

Spiritual Care Coordinator RAC & RL Karingal About Baptcare Baptcare is a purpose driven and faith-based organisation with over 3000 staff working across Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, providing residential and community care for older people and support to children, families, and people with disability, financially disadvantaged people and people seeking asylum. About the Role Baptcare has a professional spiritual care team of over 30 Spiritual Care Coordinators working in all service areas. We are looking for an experienced, articulate and competent Spiritual Care Professional to work as part of the staff team at Karingal Residential Aged Care, Residential Living and Orana Community in Devonport, Tasmania. This is a part time position (four days a week). Key Selection Criteria An active personal faith and involvement in a faith community/church or support network. Mature spiritual and pastoral formation and capacity to reflect theologically on experience. Highly developed listening and interpersonal skills, demonstrating an understanding of person-centred care. Understanding of and demonstrated ability to work sensitively with individuals and faith/community groups from diverse religious, spiritual and cultural traditions. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the capacity to explain the practice and possibilities of spiritual care to people from varied backgrounds Experience and/or special interest in working in dementia and palliative care contexts with older people. Minimum 2 years’ experience in providing pastoral/spiritual care to people outside a faith community. Experience in recruitment, selection, training, ongoing management and supervision of volunteers. Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work independently, as well as part of an interdisciplinary team. Experience and skills in administrative duties, including data collection and reporting on outcomes. Competence in Microsoft Office and related software Alignment and commitment to Baptcare’s Mission, Vision and Values. ​​400 hours of reflective practice training e.g. 2 units of CPE/ STFE/ CCTC Intern Program or commitment to complete at own cost within first 12 months. ​Qualifications in theology or spiritual care e.g. Bachelor or Diploma of Theology/Ministry/Chaplaincy Culture People enjoy working with us because we are values-driven and whole person focused organisation that cares about the community.
